Chamba, February 24
Deputy Commissioner M Sudha Devi has directed the Superintending Engineer of the Irrigation and Public Health (IPH) Department to prepare a detailed report with regard to any damage caused to natural water sources due to the excavation of tunnel by hydropower projects in the district. The DC gave these directions while presiding over a meet-the-press programme here today.
The DC said if some damage was noticed in the survey report carried out by the IPH Department, the matter of providing funds for the restoration of water sources or construction of new drinking water supply schemes would be taken up with the functionaries of the hydroelectric project. DC Sudha Devi said till January this year, 1,691 hand pumps had been installed in the district. — OC
