GeM’s Gross Merchandise Value increases from Rs 422 crore to Rs 1.55 lakh crore in 10 years: Goyal
Digital government marketplace records over Rs 20 lakh crore in cumulative GMV since launch, says Commerce Minister
Government e-Marketplace (GeM) has registered Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) of more than Rs 1.55 lakh crore, up from Rs 422 crore a decade ago, with technology made it possible for government procurement to transition to a nationwide end-to-end digital marketplace.
Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal said GeM has revolutionized public procurement over the last 10 years. He asserted that with digital procurement, the platform boosted accountability, decreased procurement cycle times, enhanced price discovery, and increased competitiveness.
As of August 7, 2026, more than 3.78 crore orders had been placed, and the total GMV on GeM had surpassed Rs 20 lakh crore since its launch. More than 2.25 lakh women-led Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) are among the more than 12.28 lakh MSEs registered on the platform.
Over Rs 9 lakh crore in executed orders on the platform have come from MSEs, accounting for 45.6 percent of total GMV. Additionally, approximately 69,000 SC/ST-owned MSEs have fulfilled orders totaling more than Rs 23,000 crore.
Over 50 lakh orders totaling more than Rs 99,800 crore have been completed by women-led MSEs. In the meantime, more than 42,000 GeM-registered startups have completed orders totaling more than Rs 65,900 crore.
GeM's Startup Runway feature features 13 different product categories from entrepreneurs recognized by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT). In addition, the platform has developed over 600 product categories under the One District One Product (ODOP) GeM Bazar.
According to Goyal, MSEs, startups, women entrepreneurs, Self Help Groups, craftsmen, and weavers now have easier access to government markets due to the platform. Additionally, he connected these initiatives to the government's emphasis on Make in India and Vocal for Local.
More than 25,000 people have registered for the GeM Sahay project, which offers MSEs working capital funding against active purchase orders without the need for collateral. The initiative's goal is to give MSEs access to working financing for their ongoing government purchase orders.
Goyal added that GeM is becoming a major force for independence while fortifying the basis of Viksit Bharat. He claimed that the platform's expansion over the previous ten years had altered public procurement regulations thru digital procedures.
