India’s net direct tax collection jumps 23% to Rs 8.11 lakh crore till August 10
India’s net direct tax collection increased by 23.09 per cent to nearly Rs 8.11 lakh crore between April 1 and August 10 of FY27, according to data released by Income Tax Department.
While non-corporate tax collection, which includes personal income tax, jumped by 23 per cent to Rs 5.07 lakh crore, net corporate tax collection increased by 19.83 per cent to roughly Rs 2.70 lakh crore. Revenues from the Securities Transaction Tax (STT) grew by 51 per cent to Rs 33,824 crore as of August 10.
Between April 1 and August 10, refunds totalling Rs 1.43 lakh crore were given out, a 3.8 per cent rise over the same period last year.
Up to August 10, gross direct tax collection (which includes corporate, personal income tax, and STT) increased by 19.75 per cent to over Rs 9.55 lakh crore.
In the current fiscal year, the government plans to collect Rs 26.97 lakh crore from direct taxes, a 15 per cent increase over the Rs 23.40 lakh crore received in FY26.
Earlier, India’s net direct tax collections increased 16.4 per cent year-on-year (YoY) to Rs 6.51 lakh crore between 1 April and 13 July FY27, indicating robust growth in both corporate and non-corporate tax receipts despite an upsurge in refunds.
