India’s net direct tax collections jump 16.4% to Rs 6.51 lakh crore till July 13

India’s net direct tax collections increased 16.4 per cent year-on-year (YoY) to Rs 6.51 lakh crore as of July 13, indicating robust growth in both corporate and non-corporate tax receipts despite an upsurge in refunds, as per the data released by the Income Tax Department.

According to the report, net collections rose from Rs 5.59 lakh crore during the same period in the prior fiscal year. The growth was driven by strong gains in both corporate tax and non-corporate tax collections.

Net corporate tax receipts were Rs 2.4 lakh crore, up from Rs 1.97 lakh crore in the same period last year. In the meantime, net non-corporate tax collections increased from Rs 3.44 lakh crore to Rs 3.85 lakh crore. This includes taxes paid by individuals, Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs), companies, Associations of Persons (AoPs), Bodies of Individuals (BoIs), local authorities, and artificial juridical persons.

Securities Transaction Tax (STT) collections also saw a significant increase, from Rs 17,876 crore to Rs 26,429 crore in the previous year, the data show. However, compared to Rs 269.45 crore during the same period last year, net receipts under the ‘other taxes’ category fell sharply to Rs 2.02 crore.

Gross direct tax collections rose from Rs 6.66 lakh crore as of July 13, 2025, to Rs 7.74 lakh crore, a 16.11 percent YoY.

While the non-corporate tax collections climbed to Rs 4.12 lakh crore from Rs 3.58 lakh crore, gross corporate tax collections increased to Rs 3.35 lakh crore from Rs 2.9 lakh crore. Additionally, STT revenues jumped to Rs 26,429 crore from Rs 17,876 crore during the same period the last year.

Furthermore, the government issued refunds of Rs 1.22 lakh crore during that time, which is 14.57 per cent more than the Rs 1.07 lakh crore issued out during the same period in FY26. According to official data, corporate tax refunds were Rs 95,145 crore, while non-corporate tax refunds totalled Rs 27,333 crore.
