Now, fruits, vegetables and other commodities, particularly basmati meant for exports, may not leave Indian ports undetected for quality and consistency and face rejection, as startups based in Haryana and Maharashtra have developed a software that would verify the quality and provide details such as moisture content.

The software will be handy for exporters who procure commodities from across the country and often face rejection by overseas buyers because they are unable to check product consistency of the consignments.

Now they can find out details through a mobile app armed with artificial intelligence. “It is an image-based technology to accurately assess the quality of the commodity,” Gurgaon-based Intello Labs Head (sales & business development) Devendra Chandani told The Tribune.

Currently, the company is working with various stakeholders in Haryana, Delhi, Maharashtra, Andhra, Karnataka and Telangana.

The technology adds value to stakeholders such as food processors, exporters, importers, food retailers, traders, warehousing companies and surveyor agencies as it shares quality results on a realtime basis.

Maharashtra-based firm Agricx has also developed an app that digitalises the procurement process. It detects all physical quality parameters, including shape, size, count, defects just by using mobile device. Currently, the company is working on basmati, potato, tur dal and turmeric.

“Our technology is software as a service (SAAS)-based and can be run across the country. For the northern region, we are looking forward to working with farmer producer organisations. We plan to cater to all the crops in details,” said Agricx’s RSM Ankush Wanjari.
