SC irked over voluminous records

New Delhi, November 23

Frowning upon voluminous documents filed by parties in the Amazon-Future Retail case, the Supreme Court on Tuesday wondered if they wanted to “harass the judges” or preferred to simply drag on the litigation.

“Truckload of volume has been filed yesterday…I am sorry to say to all of you…What is the fun in filing 22-23 volumes of records? How many documents both sides have filed repeatedly and is it the purpose of just dragging on or otherwise to harass the judges,” a Bench led by Chief Justice of India NV Ramana told the parties to the case.

“It is completely unnecessary,” responded senior advocate Harish Salve, representing the Future group. Both sides can discuss and file a common set of documents along with short written notes, Salve suggested. The next date of hearing is December 8. — TNS
