Domestic benchmark indices opened marginally lower on Tuesday due to mixed global cues and ended in negative territory on Tuesday.

Sensex fell 692.89 points or 0.87 per cent to 78,956.03, while Nifty50 dropped 208.03 points or 0.85 per cent to 24,139.The volatility index, INDIA VIX, jumped by 1.89%, settling at 16.17, indicating a rise in market volatility.

Broader indices settled lower, with small-cap shares being the worst hit as the Nifty Smallcap 100 index fell 1.30 per cent. — TNS
