Smartphones have emerged as India’s leading export category, with overseas shipments reaching an impressive $30 billion in 2025, Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Wednesday.
Sharing the update on his X handle, Vaishnaw said India was “becoming the smartphone manufacturing factory for the world.” “Smartphones are India’s No. 1 export category. $30 billion in smartphone exports from January–December 2025. Making in India, for the world,” he added.
It may be noted that India’s electronics exports have surged 11-fold since 2014–15, reaching a record $47 billion in 2025. Electronics now rank among the top three exported items from the country, boosting foreign exchange earnings and supporting job creation across India’s electronics ecosystem.
Vaishnaw had last month noted that 46 component manufacturing projects, including for laptops and servers, were contributing to making electronics a major driver of the country’s manufacturing economy.
According to reports, iPhones emerged as India’s single most valuable export product in 2025, with shipments worth about USD 23 billion from domestic factories, primarily to the US.
