New Delhi, December 12

India’s urbanisation process has to be extremely innovative as well as sustainable, and the country should not repeat the mistakes of the western world, Niti Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant said on Wednesday.

Cities account for just 3 per cent of earth’s landmass but they account for 84 per cent of world GDP, Kant said while addressing delegates at ‘ITC Sustainability Awards 2018’.

“The western world created the most polluting model of urbanisation. The concept of sustainable development comes from the eastern part of the world.

“In India, the process of urbanisation has just begun. India’s process of urbanisation has to be the extremely innovative and sustainable. We should not repeat mistakes of the western world,” he said. — PTI
