The Delhi Police will soon ask Mayank Singhvi’s former wife to join the probe, a senior police officer privy to the investigation said.

The police want to know from his former wife whether Mayank, a software engineer, was aggressive in his behaviour and also regarding the allegation that he is mentally not stable.

The police suspect that a female flight attendant, who allegedly committed suicide in South Delhi’s Panchsheel Park, was upset with her husband as she had recently discovered that he was a divorcee.

Anissia Batra (39), who worked with a German airline, had sent a message on WhatsApp to one of her friends before she committed suicide saying, “I am going to kill myself today because Mayank has driven me to it”.

According to the police, her friend who received this message will also be called for questioning because Anissia had also asked her friend to come over to her house and call the police as she needed help because she had alleged that she was locked up in a room by Mayank.

The police will also summon Mayank’s family to join the probe after July 20 as his parents had been granted exemption from joining the probe by the court till July 20 on personal grounds. They would be questioned after that, the police said.

The deceased flight attendant’s father, Maj Gen RS Batra (retd), had also written a compliant to the SHO, Hauz Khas, fearing that his daughter was in trouble and the police needed to look into the matter regarding her safety and well-being.

On June 27, General Batra had sent the complaint to the SHO saying that his daughter Anissia Batra Singhvi was married to Mayank Singhvi, a resident of N-166, Panchsheel Park, and his father RS Singhvi resided at N-39, Panchsheel Park.

“My daughter got married to Mayank Singhvi on February 23, 2016, at the Delhi Cantonment. Mayank is a violent man and is harassing my daughter and physically abusing her. We have been keeping quiet to keep the marriage alive, but now his violence is becoming more frequent. The matter has come to a stage where the husband and in-laws asked her to vacate her husband’s house in Panchsheel Park. I also fear for her safety as her life could be in danger,” the complaint said.

The flight attendant’s suicide case has left several questions unanswered.

Among the questions raised by her family are why was the house, the scene of the crime, not sealed and why did the forensic team not visit the spot immediately and delayed it for over 24 hours during which a lot of evidence could have been tampered with.
