1,500-kg polythene seized during raid on Mohali unit

MOHALI: Taking action against a unit manufacturing polythene bags at the local industrial area, officials of the Mohali Municipal Corporation seized 1,500 kg material, including polythene carry bags, from there.

Taking action against a unit manufacturing polythene bags at the local industrial area, officials of the Mohali Municipal Corporation seized 1,500 kg material, including polythene carry bags, from there.

The corporation also issued a challan of Rs 50,000 to the violator. Ranjeev Kumar, Secretary of the Mohali MC, said the unit was being run from the industrial area, Phase 9, where banned items were being manufactured.

The raid was conducted on the unit today, said the official, adding that information had been sent to the Punjab Pollution Control Board for sealing the unit. He said the corporation did not have the power to seal the unit.

There is a ban on using polythene carry bags and other such items of the material here since 2016. The ban was imposed under Section 7 of the Punjab Carry Bag Act.
