1.8K students get degrees at SD College convocation in Chandigarh

A total of 1,886 degrees were awarded to postgraduate and graduate students at the 48th convocation ceremony of the Goswami Ganesh Dutta Sanatan Dharma (GGDSD) College today.

Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria awarded the degrees to the students of the 2023-24 batch. Ahead of the conferral of degrees, the college presented scholarships under the Upkar Krishan Sharma Scholarship Scheme, recognising meritorious and deserving students for the academic session 2025-26.

In his address, Kataria lauded the college for its academic excellence, particularly its A+ grade by NAAC and 70th rank in the NIRF. He also commended the institution’s consistent achievements in both sports and cultural activities.

Principal Ajay Sharma presented the annual report. He announced that the college achieved an All India Rank of 70 in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) under the Ministry of Education, positioning it among the top 0.002% of colleges nationwide. The college has also been ranked first in the Northern India (except Delhi-NCR region) in Outlook, India Today and The Week.

On the sports achievement, the college won both the men’s and women’s overall trophies at Panjab University Sports Championships. The men’s team lifted the Sir Shadi Lal Trophy for the fourth consecutive year, while the women’s team secured the PL Bhains Trophy. Students from the college won the best athlete in both men’s and women’s categories.

On the cultural front, the college lifted the overall runners-up trophy at the Panjab University Youth and Heritage Festival (Chandigarh Zone) and secured the second runners-up position at the Inter-Zonal Youth Festival at Hoshiarpur.
