Chandigarh, December 6

The UT Election Commission today rejected nomination papers of 102 candidates after scrutiny of papers.

Now, a total of 214 candidates are left in the competition for the MC poll scheduled for December 24. The final tally of the nominees will be cleared after the last date of withdrawal of nominations i.e. December 9.

According to information, the nomination papers of covering candidates and Independents were cancelled. In case of multiple nomination papers filed by candidates, one was accepted and the remaining were rejected.

A maximum of five nomination papers were rejected in Ward No. 19 and 21.

Mayor Ravi Kant Sharma had filed a complaint against his rival candidate Naseeb Jakhar alleging that he was fighting the elections even though he was a government employee. However, the plaint was rejected after Jakhar told the commission that he had already resigned.
