Chandigarh, June 4

The Punjab Government today announced to set up a state of the art 10m indoor shooting range in Phase 6 in Mohali, which would be made available to shooters before March 31 next year.

The range would be built at a cost of Rs 8.18 crore. The foundation stone of the range was laid by Punjab Sports Minister Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi and Cabinet Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu today.

Sodhi said that the state government is undertaking efforts to lift the sporting standards in the state.

A shooting range at Mohali is already functioning whereas the new 10m indoor shooting range would be of Olympics standards. Sodhi also said that the range would be two-storeyed, having 80 targets. It will be fully air-conditioned and equipped with the electronic scoreboard facility.

The minister also said that the Olympics sports in Punjab have been included in the list of priority sports so as to prepare the sportspersons for the international level in maximum numbers.

He also hoped that in the next year's Tokyo Olympics, the players from Punjab would participate in large numbers and bring glory to the country. He further said that currently, sports projects worth more than Rs. 100 crore are underway in Punjab, including creating infrastructure of hockey astroturf fields, athletics tracks, and multipurpose indoor halls.

The two ministers also inspected the already functional shooting range at Phase 6, which was in a neglected state for the past several years.
