Mohali, August 13

A total of 15 challans have been issued to residents during a surprise anti-dengue drive by Mohali health authorities here.

Mohali Civil Surgeon Dr Manjit Singh said the team found larvae in 78 of the total 1,471 houses they checked during the drive. “We issued as many as 15 on-the-spot challans to the violators. Our team inspected containers, coolers and flower pots in the houses to check breeding of Aedes mosquito.

During the checking, the health team also made the residents aware of preventive measures. The Civil Surgeon said the cooperation of people was very important in checking the seasonal outbreak of the disease. He appealed to the people to remain vigilant on accumulation of water in their houses. “The mosquito larvae breed in clean water, tires, overhead tanks, broken utensils and coolers.

“We are checking those areas particularly where cases of dengue larvae had been reported in the past. The department was fully geared up for prevention and control of dengue and other diseases as all logistics, including chemicals and equipment, were in place to deal with any situation,” said Dr Manjit Singh.
