Rs 2.58 cr awarded in 19,929 cases at Panchkula, Kalka Lok Adalats
Eight benches were constituted
The first National Lok Adalat of the year was organised at the District Courts Complex, Panchkula, and in the subdivision of Kalka, where a total of 19,929 cases were settled with a settlement amount of Rs 2.58 crore.
The Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority, Panchkula, Ajay Kumar Ghanghas said, the Lok Adalat was conducted under the directions of Jagdeep Singh Lohan, Member Secretary of the Haryana State Legal Services Authority and under the guidance of Sanjay Sandhir, District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman of the District Legal Services Authority, Panchkula.
For the effective functioning of the Lok Adalat, eight benches were constituted with the approval of the District and Sessions Judge. These benches were presided over by judicial officers, including Additional District and Sessions Judges, the Principal Judge of the Family Court, Civil Judges and Judicial Magistrates.
During the event, Jagdeep Singh Lohan visited the District Courts Complex in Panchkula and reviewed the proceedings of the Lok Adalat benches. He appreciated the efforts of judicial officers and advocates in facilitating amicable settlements and helping restore harmony between disputing parties.
Various categories of cases were taken up during the Lok Adalat, including bank loan recovery cases at the pre-litigation stage, criminal compoundable matters, civil disputes, Motor Accident Claims Tribunal cases, matrimonial disputes, traffic challans, land acquisition matters and cases under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act.
Officials said the Lok Adalat provided litigants with a quick and cost-effective platform to resolve disputes through mutual understanding, thereby reducing the burden of pending cases before courts while promoting accessible justice.
Over 9,3K cases settled in Fatehgarh Sahib
Fatehgarh Sahib: As many as 9,343 cases were settled and awards worth Rs 6 crore were passed during the first National Lok Adalat of the year held across the district on Saturday.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Vijay Kumar Gupta said a total of 12 benches heard around 12,800 cases during the Lok Adalat, of which 9,343 were amicably settled with the consent of both parties. In financial matters alone, settlements exceeding Rs 6 crore were passed.
He said Lok Adalats provided speedy and inexpensive justice to litigants, as disputes were resolved through mutual settlement.
Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority Ashok Kumar Chauhan said several cases that had not yet been filed in courts were also taken up and settled during the Lok Adalat, in addition to a large number of long-pending cases.
He said the matters taken up included compoundable criminal cases, cheque bounce cases, motor accident claims, matrimonial and family disputes, labour disputes, rent matters, bank recovery cases, revenue disputes and cases related to electricity and water supply.
He added apart from the quarterly National Lok Adalats, the Permanent Lok Adalat at the district level functions five days a week and hears disputes related to several public utility services, offering people an alternative platform to resolve grievances without the payment of court fees.
