Chandigarh, September 22

In separate incidents, the UT police have booked two persons for harassing women on Facebook (FB) by sending objectionable messages and videos.

In one of the cases, an unknown person was booked for harassing an 18-year-old girl through different FB accounts. Sources said the complainant, a resident of Ram Darbar, had stated that the miscreant had been approaching her through fake FB accounts. The person had sent friend requests from different accounts and also sent objectionable pictures and comments to the victim on her Facebook messenger.

The victim stated that the person also shared her pictures on FB through those fake IDs. The victim expressed an apprehension that her FB account has been hacked through which the person was sending friend requests to people.

A case under Section 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the IPC and Sections 66 C and 67 of the IT Act has been registered against the person at the Sector 31 police station.

In the other case, a Punjab resident has been booked for sending objectionable messages and videos to a woman on her FB account.

The 28-year-old woman, a resident of Dariya village, reported that a person sent her objectionable videos and messages on FB. The police investigated the matter and registered a case against Gurwinder Singh of Fatehgarh Sahib at the Industrial Area police station. —TNS
