Chandigarh, October 22

A gang of vehicle thieves has been busted by the local police and 27 two-wheelers, including 26 Splendor motorcycles, recovered.

The police said two suspects, identified as Sharanjeet Singh (23), a resident of Ambala, and Gurveer Singh (22), a resident of Mohali, were nabbed at a naka in Sector 42 while riding a stolen Splendor motorcycle on October 18.

The police got their four-day remand during which they revealed that they had stolen Splendor motorcycles from across the tricity.

The police said they used to sell the motorcycles to Mandeep Singh (22), a resident of Pinjore, following which he was arrested.

Mandeep’s interrogation revealed that he used to affix fake number plates on the motorcycles and further sell these to people in rural areas.

The police said Sharanjeet disclosed that he used to visit Chandigarh by falsely claiming that he was going for IELTS coaching. However, instead, he was indulged in stealing vehicles.

Fifteen cases of vehicle theft — 11 in Chandigarh and four in Panchkula — have reportedly been solved with their arrest.
