Two motorcycle-borne miscreants stabbed a 40-year-old auto driver and robbed him of his purse near the railway station turn in the Industrial Area, Phase 1, on the intervening night of August 13 and 14. The auto driver gave the miscreants a tough fight following which they escaped after leaving the motorcycle on the spot. The police have identified the suspects and raids are being conducted to nab them.
Sources said the victim, Shiv Kumar (40), a resident of Daria, was returning home when two persons riding a motorcycle forced him to stop the auto.
Kumar said the suspects told him to drop one of them at the railway station. The auto driver agreed to it after which one of the suspects sat in the auto.
In his statement to the police, the auto driver said as soon as he reached near the railway station turn, the miscreant pulled out a knife and asked him to give all money.
Before the auto driver could react, the miscreant repeatedly stabbed him on the back.
Despite being injured, the auto driver caught an arm of the miscreant, following which the auto went out of control and overturned.
The auto driver and the miscreant both got injured in the incident. They were both trapped inside the auto.
In the meantime, the second suspect, who was following them, reached the spot and pulled out his accomplice. The suspects then started thrashing the auto driver.
The police said both miscreants escaped after seeing an approaching vehicle. They left the motorcycle on the spot. The mobile phone of one of the suspects was also found at the spot.
The police were informed about the incident following which a PCR vehicle reached the spot and rushed the victim to a hospital.
Police sources said the motorcycle had been impounded and the suspects had been identified as Raju Kumar, a resident of Rajiv Colony, Panchkula, and Navrattan, alias Golu, also a resident of Rajiv Colony.
Later, Navrattan was arrested. The police have registered a case of robbery at the Industrial Area police station.
