20-yr-old girl hangs self at Baltana, youth held

Zirakpur, July 16

A 20-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan in Baltana here today.

On the complaint of the victim’s parents, the police have arrested a youth, Jatinder Kumar, under Section 306 and 376 of the IPC for abetting the suicide. The victim, who resides in Panchkula, was missing since July 5, sources said.

Bhinder Singh, Incharge, Baltana police post, said they received information about the incident in the morning today, following which cops rushed to the spot. No suicide note was recovered from the room where the girl was found dead, added Bhinder.

The cop said the victim’s father, Manoj Kumar, a resident of Panchkula, stated that they came to know that the youth had confined her at a room in Baltana and pressuring her to marry him.

He stated that his daughter had told him that Jatinder Kumar had been harassing her, following which they had registered a complaint at the Baltana police post.

On the statement of the victim’s father, the police booked the youth and arrested him. — OC
