Kharar: The Kharar police have booked three persons — Mandeep Singh, Parminder Singh and Kinda — on the charge of stealing government wood from Sill Kapra village. A case under Section 379 of the IPC was registered. Rajwinder Singh, a forest guard, told the police that he was patrolling near Sill Kapra village when he noticed that Khair wood had been stolen. He said when he tried to stop the accused, they fled. The police have started the investigation. OC

4 arrested for gambling

Kharar: The Kharar CIA staff have arrested four persons — Sandeep Singh, Harish Kumar, Mukesh Madan and Amit Mehta — on charges of gambling and cheating people. A case has been registered under Section 420 of the IPC and the Gambling Act. OC

Vigilance Bureau nabs patwari

Chandigarh: The State Vigilance Bureau on Thursday nabbed a patwari and his accomplice in a bribery case. A spokesperson for the bureau said Satnam Singh, a patwari posted at Dudansadan revenue halqa in Fatehgarh Sahib district, and his aide Avtar Singh, were caught red-handed on the complaint of Sukhwinder Bharti of Shekhpura village in Patiala district. Man electrocuted

Lalru: A migrant labourer was electrocuted while another sustained injury while repairing a bore-well pipe in Badana village on Thursday. The deceased has been identified as Urmil, a resident of Ambala, and his injured colleague is Jai Bhagwan. According to the sources, the incident happened on Thursday when the labourer was engaged in the repair of a bore-well which came in contact with the overhead electricity wires. Urmil died on the spot, while Jai Bhagwan was rushed to a nearby hospital. OC

Accused in suicide case caught

Mohali: The police have arrested a man booked three-and-a-half months ago in a case of suicide by a 24-year-old woman at Phase 1 here. The accused, Anshu of Una, Himachal Pradesh, was arrested from Jammu. In his complaint, the victim’s father had alleged that he (Anshu) was friend of his daughter Shivani. Later, he started harassing her. The victim, who hailed from Kangra, had hanged herself at her rented accommodation here on July 3 this year. TNS

Lottery racket busted, 2 held 

Zirakpur: In a raid conducted by the Special Branch Cell of the Punjab Police at the Zirakpur lottery bazaar here on Thursday, two persons were held on the charge of running the trade of single-digit lottery. The names of the accused have not been disclosed yet. OC
