3 children get life term for Ram Darbar murder

A local court has sentenced three children in conflict with law (CCL) to undergo life imprisonment in a four-year-old murder case. In the Juvenile Justice Act, a child in conflict with the law refers to a child aged from 16 to 18 years who is accused or found to have perpetrated an offence.

The police had registered the FIR on September 7, 2021, under Sections 147, 148, 149, 341 added 307, 302, 201 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860, at Sector 31 Police Station on a complaint filed by Vishal, a resident of Ram Darbar.

He had reported that on September 6, 2021, he, along with his friend Janu and his younger brother Sajjan, had gone to a market to have snacks.

While they were returning from the market about 9 pm, the accused blocked their way and attacked them with a sword, knife, punch and stones with intention to kill them. Sajjan was stabbed in the stomach. On being informed, a police team, which was on patrol duty in the market of Ram Darbar, Phase I, reached at the spot and the injured were taken to the GMCH-32 in a PCR vehicle. During treatment, Sajjan died on September7, 2021, following which Section 302 of the IPC was added to the case.

The accused were arrested and the statements of witnesses were recorded.

The police presented a challan against the accused in the court under Sections 147, 148, 149, 341, 307, 302, 201 of the IPC.

Finding a prima-facie case, the court framed charges against the accused to which they pleaded not guilty.

After hearing the arguments, the court convicted the accused and sentenced them to undergo life imprisonment.

The court said in this case, the offence was really of grave kind. It is the need of the hour that such matters should be dealt with strictly so that rich culture and moral values, for which our land is known, are protected, and coming generations are not spoiled.

Two youths above the age of 18 and two juveniles were convicted in the case earlier.
