3 DANIPS-cadre DSPs shifted

Chandigarh: Three DANIPS (Delhi, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, Daman and Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli Police Service)-cadre DSP were on Monday relieved by the Chandigarh Police and transferred back to Delhi.

Pawan Kumar, who was holding the charge of DSP (Crime), Satish Kumar, who was holding the charge of DSP (Lines, Training and Recruitment), and Anjitha Chepyala, who was looking after the charge of DSP (Women and Child Safety Unit), have been transferred back. The DSPs will be joining the Delhi Police for their new postings. With the transfer or three DANIPS-cadre DSPs, the city has now five DSPs of the DANIPS cadre. TNS

Theft at house  

Chandigarh: Jewellery items and other valuables were stolen from a house in Maloya. Complainant Akash Chander reported that 20 gm of gold ornaments, 500 gm of silver ornaments, a laptop, an LCD and Rs 45,000 were stolen from the house. TNS

Basant Panchami celebrated  

Chandigarh: ‘Saraswati puja’ and Basant Panchami celebrations were organised at the Neerja Bhanot Hall, Girls Hostel No 10, PU. An idol of the Goddess was unveiled and Sarasvati vandana recited. Puja was followed by swings and kite flying. — TNS

Dog adoption drive

Chandigarh: An adoption drive by tricity-based group, Home for Paws, was held on Saturday at Sector 17 Plaza, opposite Neelam Theatre. There were Indian puppies (up to 3 months of age) up for adoption. The event highlighted the need for better human-dog interactions and adopting Indian breeds, which are better suited to the environment.  Since the first adoption drive held in January at Sukhna Lake, the group has managed to facilitate the adoption of 10 Indian dogs. The next adoption drive will be held on March 9 at Sukhna Lake. — TNS

Man killed in road mishap

Dera Bassi: A 47-year-old man died after he was hit by an unidentified vehicle while crossing the road near Dera Bassi on Saturday night. The deceased has been identified as Ram Shakar, a resident of Mirpur village, Dera Bassi. The police said the incident took place on Saturday night when the deceased was crossing the road near Bhusha Factory, Dera Bassi. He was rushed to the local Civil hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. Acting on the complaint of the deceased’s wife, the police have registered a case under sections of the IPC. OC 

Office-bearers elected

Panchkula: Sunil Pandit has been elected the president of the Kashmiri Pandit Sabha, Panchkula. Rajinder Miya will be the new general secretary of the oragnisation while Ashok Dhar has been elected the senior vice-president. Neelam Handoo was elected the vice-president (women). Rajaji Kachroo will shoulder the responsibility of the joint secretary and Ravinder Kumar Bhat will hold the post of the finance secretary. Daleep Kaul will be the organising secretary while Meenakshi and Rahul Saproo have been elected social secretaries. TNS

One booked for illegal mining 

Dera Bassi: The local police here booked a man on the charge of illegal mining. They also seized a tractor-trailer. The suspect, identified as Balwinder Khan, a resident of Dera Bassi, managed to flee. According to the police, a naka was laid near Dera Bassi on Monday. The suspect, who was coming from the Amlala side with sand loaded in the tractor-trailer, was signalled to stop. He could not produce valid documents about the material loaded in the vehicle. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Mining Act at the Dera Bassi police station. OC

Fire at shop

Ambala: A fire broke out at a sweetmeat shop near Panchayat Bhawan in Ambala City on Sunday night. Smoke was first noticed around 11.30 pm. Surinder Singh, shop owner, said, “Around 11.30 pm, I got information about the fire. Furniture, sweets, packed dry fruits and other items were destroyed in the fire.” It took nearly two hours to completely douse the flames. The total loss is yet to be ascertained. No causality was reported. A short circuit was suspected to be the reason behind the fire. TNS
