Chandigarh, August 17

A local court has awarded two-year jail to three persons in a snatching case. Rahul, Jagesh and Vinod, all natives of Uttar Pradesh, had snatched the purse of a woman containing Rs 2,000, a mobile phone and some documents in Sector 17 two years ago. The accused had confessed to the crime in the court and were convicted on Friday.

The three were held guilty under Sections 356 (assault or criminal force in an attempt to commit theft of property carried out by a person) and 411 (dishonestly receiving stolen property) of the IPC. They were booked on a complaint of Rekha, a resident of Sector 25.

The matter dates back to November 4, 2016, when an FIR was registered against unknown persons. According to the FIR, the complainant, a maid, was going home from Sector 9 around 9 pm. When she reached the Sector 17 overbridge, three men came from behind and threatened her to hand over the purse which she was holding. According to her statement, the purse contained Rs 2,000, a mobile phone and documents. The convicts snatched it from her and fled.
