Zirakpur, July 21
Rain continued to pour misery, inundating streets, roads and houses here since early morning. It was chaos as usual on the roads as the clock struck 8 and school buses were still stranded. By 9 am, traffic moved at a snail’s pace as all roads were submerged in knee-deep rainwater in Zirakpur.
Long queues of vehicles were witnessed at the Patiala chowk, under-construction vehicular underpass, Old Kalka Road, Singhpura Chowk, VIP Road and the Baltana area.
Vehicles crawled on the Chandigarh-Zirakpur highway for close to three hours in the morning.
“We have not seen any upgrade in the infrastructure in the last seven-eight years. No one in the administration or the municipal corporation is ready to resolve the basic civic issues,” said Sukhpal Kalsi, a Zirakpur resident.
Rainwater entered several houses in the low-lying areas of Baltana and Pabhat.
Around 11 am, the police issued an advisory that traffic was affected at the Patiala Chowk, Zirakpur, due to waterlogging. People were advised to avoid the stretch.
