Chandigarh, June 15

A 15-year-old boy, who had gone for cycling, was kidnapped and a ransom of Rs50 lakh was demanded from his family. However, the boy was later released by the kidnappers without any ransom.

Feared police may catch them

The kidnappers were asking the complainant to come with the cash to different locations in Panchkula. They asked him to come to the flyover on the Shimla-Kalka highway following which cops in civvies reached there. The complainant and his daughter also reached there. However, sensing police presence, the suspects did not arrive there. Fearing that the police may catch them, they released the boy unharmed without taking any ransom near Sector 15, Panchkula, around 8.55 am.

The police said complainant Churamani, a resident of Kishangarh village, who runs a canteen, visited the Mani Majra police station this morning and reported that his son went for cycling along with his friend. On reaching near the railway crossing, three miscreants riding a white Brezza arrived there and allegedly kidnapped the complainant’s son and sped away from the spot. The victim was kidnapped around 4.40 am.

Soon, the complainant received a call from the kidnappers, who demanded a ransom of Rs50 lakh from the complainant. They threatened to eliminate the boy if the money was not paid.

The police said the kidnapped boy had two mobiles, one of which was used by the kidnappers to make the ransom call.

Neeraj Sarna, Mani Majra SHO, said the kidnappers asked the complainant to come to the flyover on the Shimla-Kalka highway following which cops in civvies reached there. The complainant and his daughter also reached there. However, sensing police presence, the suspects did not arrive there.
