Three men allegedly thrashed two cops and tore their uniform while they were on a patrolling duty near Sector 26 here in the wee hours of Saturday.
Constable Dinesh, in his complaint, stated that he was deployed on a patrolling duty from 10 pm to 5 am near Sector 7 and 26 along with Home Guards volunteer Joginder Singh on a PCR motorcycle. When the cops reached near a hotel in Sector 26, they saw three men creating a ruckus there. When the cops asked them not to shout and leave the place, they started misbehaving with the cops and also abused them.
The men entered into a scuffle with the cops and also tore their reflector jackets. The suspects tried to flee from the spot, but the cops managed to nab them.
According to the complainant, the suspects were under the influence of liquor. One of the cops also sustained injuries after a man tried to hit him with a ‘kada’.
A case has been registered against the suspects under Sections 323 (punishment for causing hurt), 332 (causing hurt to public servant), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from duty) and 34 (act done by persons with common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
The suspects have been identified as Simranjit Singh (30) of Ludhiana, Arvind Gujjar (46) of Sector 33 in Chandigarh and Jatin (40) of Ludhiana.
