3 nabbed for online gaming app fraud

The police claimed to have busted a fake call centre operating from a flat in Sunny Enclave, Kharar, duping people through an online gaming app fraud. Three persons have been arrested in the case and 20 mobile phones, three laptops, 41 ATM cards and nine chequebooks have been recovered from them.

The accused were identified as Akshay Kumar, a resident of Sirsa, and Sitesh and Chetan, both from Patan in Gujarat. They had allegedly duped people across India, with transactions worth Rs 3 crore carried out through multiple bank accounts in the past two months.

A case under the IT Act has been registered at the cybercrime police station, Phase 7.

Meanwhile, SSP Harmandeep Singh Hans said a case of preventive digital arrest had come to light involving an 80-year-old woman from Phase 2 who was coerced to pay Rs 2 crore. The victim was reportedly held for three days, and when she approached the branch manager to transfer the amount, the bank official informed the police. “The police are tracing the suspected IP addresses and further action will follow according to the law,” he said.

A case was registered under Sections 318 and 319 of the BNS and the IT Act.
