Chandigarh, September 16

Almost two weeks after a youth was shot dead and his friend injured when assailants opened fire on them at a parking lot in Sector 17, the crime branch of the UT police arrested three members of the Boxer gang, including gang leader Vikas, alias Boxer.

The assailants had pumped five bullets into the body of the victim, Tejinder Singh, alias Malli, leading to his death, while his friend Sandeep (24), a cab driver, was shot at once.

Teams of the Chandigarh Police, including one of the crime branch, were after the miscreants after the prime accused in the murder case, Vikas, alias Boxer, was identified.

A team, led by Sub-Inspector (SI) Satvinder Singh of the crime branch, conducted raids in Haryana, Rajasthan and Delhi. The SI received a tip-off that Boxer and his accomplices (who were involved in the murder), identified as Gurmert Singh, alias Dhakalia, and Amit, alias Amit Growar, will be visiting Chandigarh to meet their friends following which a naka was laid near Shivalik Garden, Mani Majra, and the three miscreants were nabbed. Police officials said a .32 bore pistol, with which Tejinder Singh was shot, had been recovered from Boxer’s possession.

College rivalry led to crime

The police said the victim and the suspects were involved in student politics and verbal spats were witnessed between them on several occasions.

In April 2019, Mohit Mor, brother of suspect Vikas Boxer, was murdered by the Dumerkha group, which was associated with deceased

Tejinder Singh, who was one of the leaders of the group. After the death of his brother, Boxer and his gang members decided to take revenge of Mohit’s death. While two youths were murdered by Boxer and his gang members in Narwana on August 14, Tejinder, who was also suspected to have been involved in Mohit’s murder, was shot dead on September 4 in Chandigarh.

Boxer gang was after Tejinder

Members of the Boxer gang came to know that Tejinder was living in Chandigarh following which one of their friends, Upkar, gathered information about Tejinder and traced him. On the day of the incident, the victim had come to meet someone in Sector 17, when the suspects shot him dead.
