Panchkula, July 30

A family of three was cheated of Rs 39.10 lakh in cyber fraud. Mansi Sahay (25), a resident of Sector 7, Panchkula, who works as a dietician, said her father came across an advertisement of share market and learning through Facebook. He clicked it and was added to a WhatsApp group, where certain group members shared tips about share market and investing. Her father purchased 1,000 shares based on their advice and invested Rs 1.50 lakh. His account created by the members showed profits of Rs 35,000 within a couple of days.

The man then shared the details of the same with her and her brother, who also started investing and purchasing shares. The group members suggested them to purchase crypto currency. They sent a total of Rs 39.10 lakh in the name of investments to the scammers, after which their account showed Rs 55.85 lakh. But when they attempted to debit the amount, they were then asked to pay more money. They got suspicious and demanded their invested money back, but in vain.

Following this, they filed a police complaint. The Panchkula police have registered a case under Sections 406, 420 and 120-B of the IPC at the cyber crime police station.

53-year-old man duped of Rs 7.30 lakh

A 53-year-old resident of Sector 17 here was duped of Rs 7.30 lakh in a cyber fraud.

Pradeep Sharma said he was informed about a WhatsApp group whose members asked him to invest money via an application. He started with investments of Rs 10,000, which showed generation of profits. In total, he invested Rs 7.30 lakh. He filed a police complaint after he was asked to deposit another Rs 6 lakh before debiting the invested amount. The Panchkula police have registered a case at cyber crime police station.
