More than 1,500 policemen would be deputed as part of security cover for the T20 match between India and South Africa at IS Bindra PCA Stadium here on Wednesday.

According to Mohali SSP Kuldeep Singh Chahal, like previous practice, the police would provide three-tier security cover in and around the stadium.

“There would be more than 1500 policemen deputed in and around the stadium. Besides, special nakas would also be set up at various points across the town,” SSP Chahal said, adding that extra force has been summoned from other districts for the purpose.

All the security arrangements would be supervised by more than 10 SP-level officers and 25 DSPs.

Chahal further said the road in front of the stadium and the stretch separating Phase 9 and 10, along the stadium, would be closed for traffic from 11 am on the match day.

“The residents in the vicinity of the stadium are being given passes for access to their locality,” the SSP added.
