Keeping in view the rush of patients at the Civil Hospital in Sector 6 here, the Health Department is planning to set up a 300-bed general hospital in Nanakpur.

At present, the hospital fails to provide services such as ultrasound and MRI as patients have to wait for months due to a heavy rush. More than 4,000 patients visit the Civil Hospital in Sector 6 on a daily basis.

The Health Ministry, while approving the project, had directed the Health Department to submit a report after finalising the site so that further process could be started for setting up the hospital.

Chief Medical Officer Dr Yogesh Sharma said the Health Ministry had given its approval for setting up another general hospital in Panchkula district. Sites were being identified for the project and a report would be sent to the ministry and the department after finalising the site.

Dr Yogesh Sharma said as per the plan, a 300-bed hospital would be set up on 10 acres. There would be 60 to 65 doctors on the lines of the Civil Hospital, Sector 6. All departments would have OPD and hi-tech operation theatres. Besides, the hospital would have hi-tech labs so that patients would not have to move from one place to other to gather test reports.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Civil Hospital in Sector 6 had the capacity to cater to 2,500 to 3,000 OPDs five years ago. Now, the number of outdoor patients has increased up to 6,000 per day. However, there was no increase in the strength of doctors and other staff. As a result, patients are not getting quality treatment.

After the opening of general hospital in Nanakpur, number of patients coming from Kalka, Pinjore, Raipur Rani, Morni and other areas would come down at the Civil Hospital. As a result, patients would be able to get quality treatment.

To be set up on 10 acres

As per the plan, a 300-bed hospital will be set up on 10 acres. There will be 60 to 65 doctors on the lines of the Civil Hospital, Sector 6. All departments will have OPD and hi-tech operation theatres. Besides, the hospital will have hi-tech labs so that patients will not have to move from one place to other to gather test reports.
