Acting on a tip-off, a team of the UT Excise Department, along with the police, intercepted a vehicle near the IT Park traffic lights around 10:30 pm last night. They seized 1,439 bottles of liquor — 60 cases of “Royal Stag” pints and 15 cases of “Rockford” — from the vehicle. An FIR was registered against the vehicle driver at the Sector 11 police station.

Further investigation led the excise team to a godown, from where illicit liquor was smuggled outside Chandigarh. The godown was raided in the morning. The raiding team seized 34,608 bottles of Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL). These included 226 cases of “Charlie” and 495 cases of “King Gold” whisky. These bottles bore no track-and-trace markings.
