Chandigarh, January 24

Draw of lots at four convent schools — St Anne’s School, Sector 32; Carmel Convent School, Sector 9; Sacred Heart Convent School, Sector 26 and St John’s School, Sector 26 — were held today. A maximum number of 1,877 applications were received by St Anne’s School, Sector 32, for a total of 200 seats.

  • Deposit of fee: Before Feb 12

The draw of lots was held for 87 seats, of which 52 seats were offered to girl students and 35 seats to boys. A total of 10 candidates have been kept in the waiting list.

Shyni Paul, Principal, St Anne’s School, said, “Our school was the first to start the practice of the draw of lots over 26 years ago. It was conducted in a smooth and transparent manner.”

The all-girls’ school, Carmel Convent School, Sector 9, held draw for 58 seats (non-preferred category) out of 120 total seats. There were 906 eligible applications for admissions.

Out of 160 seats (all girls) at Sacred Heart Convent School, Sector 26, the draw was held for 101 seats and rest was allotted to preferred category.

Preeti Bajaj, a parent from Panchkula who had applied at Sacred Heart School, said, “The quota for Christian was quite high and there were less open seats for general category. We have applied in other schools as well.”

A parent from Mohali, Kamal, whose daughter got admission said, “I heard a lot about convents and that’s why wanted my daughter to get admission in one of the convent schools.”

For 160 seats (all boys) at St John’s School, Sector 26, the draw was held for 95 open seats. A total of 605 applicants were declared eligible for the draw of lots.
