Police have arrested four youths, including a woman, for kidnapping a Chandigarh University student for a ransom of Rs 1 lakh on March 30.
This is the second instance in three days when Chandigarh University students have been targeted in heinous crimes in the Kharar area.
The accused were identified as Lovepreet Singh, Uday Sharma, Prince Kumar, and Tanveer Kaur. The car used in the crime was also recovered.
Victim Avdhesh Singh, 22, a native of Madhya Pradesh, who is currently living in Urban Homes, GTB Nagar, Kharar, had gone to his friend Vinayak's house at Mata Gujri Road on the evening of March 30.
Around 10 pm, they went to a nearby market, where three to four youths got into a fight with him and later bundled him up in their black car and took him away. During this time, they beat him up and started demanding Rs 1 lakh from him.
The victim allegedly gave Rs 5,000 in cash and transferred Rs 5,000 more to the account of the accused Tanveer Kaur. Later, the accused pushed the victim out of the car and fled the scene. The boy was admitted to Kharar hospital, from where the police were informed.
Kharar DSP Karan Singh Sandhu said, "Three suspects have NDPS Act cases registered against them. They will be produced in the court tomorrow."
A case under Sections 308 (5), 140 (3), 115(2), 191 (3), 190, 351(2), 61 (2) of the BNS has been registered at Kharar City police station.
In a separate incident on Wednesday, a Chandigarh University law student was stabbed to death outside a girl student's house in Bhagomajra. Suspects Ram, Monu, Vinay, and Lavisha have been booked in the murder case.
