The Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) will host the auction of nearly 450 players for the upcoming Sher-e-Punjab League on August 9 in Chandigarh.
The league will feature six teams and Indian cricketers from the state, including Shubman Gill, Arshdeep Singh, Abhishek Sharma, Prabhsimran Singh, Ramandeep Singh and Gurnoor Brar, as part of the league. The six players will play in six different teams during the league, which is slated to be held from August 30 to September 13, at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh PCA International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, cricketers Abhishek, Arshdeep, Prabhsimran and Ramandeep met Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. “It was a pleasure to meet the players of the Sher-e-Punjab T20 Cup. The land of Punjab has always produced talented players for the country. Our government is continuously working to connect the youth with sports and further strengthen Punjab in the field of sports. This is Punjab’s own IPL,” said Mann.
Gill will represent Fazilka Falcons, Arshdeep will play for Ludhiana Lions, Abhishek will lead Amritsar Soormaaz, Prabhsimran Singh will be the face of Jalandhar Warriors, Ramandeep Singh will play for Mohali Kings and Gurnoor Brar is expected to lead Bathinda Royals. “Punjab is currently the backbone of the Indian cricket team, with 21 players from the state featuring in the IPL,” added the Chief Minister.
A few famous names, including Anmolpreet Singh, Mayank Markande, Naman Dhir, Vihaan Malhotra, Imanjot Singh Chahal, Ashwani Kumar and Krish Bhagat, will be part of the auction. The league will be played on round-robin basis, with each team playing eight league matches.
On the occasion, Punjab Cricket Association president Amarjit Mehta, secretary Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer and vice-president Deepak Bali, along with joint secretary Siddhant Sharma, presented a T-shirt bearing the league’s logo to Mann in presence of the cricketers.
