In a major drive to curb crime and strengthen law and order, the Panchkula Police on Sunday registered 24 cases and arrested 51 accused under Operation Aakraman.
Led by DCP Srishti Gupta and DCP (Crime and Traffic) Manpreet Singh Sudan, 38 special teams comprising 192 police officers and personnel drawn from police stations, posts, crime branch and PO staff, were constituted.
Beginning early morning, the teams raided suspected hideouts of identified offenders across the district and conducted extensive searches.
According to official data, six cases were registered under the Excise Act with six arrests, while eight cases under the Gambling Act led to the arrest of eight persons. Three youths were also apprehended for consuming alcohol in public, while one was arrested under the NDPS Act. The police also recovered 149 bottles of illicit country liquor and seized Rs 23,760 in cash linked to gambling cases.
Giving priority to road safety, teams at the police station and post-level initiated strict action against violations of lane-driving rules. In this connection, 10 cases were registered and 10 accused were arrested.
Among the key achievements of the operation was the arrest of several wanted offenders. The police apprehended two accused wanted in attempt to murder cases, nine persons involved in assault cases and four proclaimed offenders.
Police Commissioner ADGP Sibash Kabiraj said through Operation Aakraman, teams conducted coordinated action at multiple locations.
