The authorities of the Government Medical College (GMC) have started a mass plantation drive on the campus under the ongoing mission “Clean GOMCO Green GOMCO” of the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of the college.
The target of the mission is to plant 550 trees and ornamental plants in the coming days dedicated to the 550th birthday celebrations of Guru Nanak Dev.
The National Service Scheme organisers and volunteers led by Director, Research and Medical Education, Punjab, Dr Avnish Kumar, and College Principal Dr KK Aggarwal started the plantation drive at the college today.
The inaugural programme was dedicated to the martyrs of the nation – Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru – with the participants pledging to keep the college campus clean and green.
The National Service Scheme programme officer, Dr DS Bhullar, said “Keeping in view the fact that Punjab has been listed in among the first five environment polluted states of the country, the programme is an initiative to motivate medical students for active participation in keeping the campus clean, green and create an ambient atmosphere for their health.”
