Dera Bassi: A 61-year-old woman reportedly jumped to death from the balcony of the sixth floor of her house in the Gulmohar City housing society in Dera Bassi around 2 am on Friday. The victim, Mukta Mahajan, was mentally disturbed. Neighbours woke up to a sound of thud and found the woman lying on the top of a car parked below. She was rushed to the Dera Bassi Civil Hospital where doctors declared her dead. The police said the deceased had returned from Haridwar a day before. She was in a mentally disturbed state ever since the death of her husband a few years ago. Her brother Sharad Chandra Tyagi, a resident of Ghaziabad, said she was depressed. Her son, Dayanand (30), is also unwell. The police handed over the body to the victim’s kin after a postmortem. TNS
5 boxes of illicit liquor seized
Mohali: A car driver escaped from a joint naka of the Excise Department and the police in Phase 1 here. Five boxes of illicit liquor meant for sale in Chandigarh only were recovered from the vehicle.
