PANCHKULA: The police on Sunday arrested seven more persons in connection with the gangrape of a woman in Morni, taking the total arrests in the case to nine.

The police on Sunday arrested seven more persons in connection with the gangrape of a woman in Morni, taking the total arrests in the case to nine. 

While a resident of Raipur Rani, Sahib Singh, who was nabbed earlier in the day, was prodiced before a court in Panchkula, the police also arrested Sukhwinder Singh, Karan Sharma, Manjit Singh, Vikash alias Vicky, Shadi Ram and Ajay Kumar, all residents of Ambala district. They will be produced in Panchkula court tomorrow.

The victim’s husband told police that recently Sunil, alias Sunny, pretended to offer his 21-year-old wife, a daily wage labourer, a job at his farmhouse in Morni, but instead took her to a guesthouse where he gave her sedatives and, along with 40 other men, raped her for four days.

The victim managed to escape on July 18.

Earlier, Chandigarh Police detained two people, including Sunil, on Saturday. Panchkula Police then took over the case.

Meanwhile, the victim and her husband want the case transferred back to Chandigarh Police.
