700 saplings planted on I-Day

ROPAR: IIT Ropar celebrated the 72nd Independence Day by planting 700 saplings at the upcoming permanent campus.

IIT Ropar celebrated the 72nd Independence Day by planting 700 saplings at the upcoming permanent campus.

The saplings were planted by faculty, staff and students. SK Das, Director, IIT Ropar, encouraged the students to plant more saplings.

The plants have been named after the person who planted it and he/she will look after it, leaving behind a legacy. Prof Das hoisted the national flag.

Celebrations at various colleges in Kharar

The Independence Day was celebrated in Kharar and nearby areas. A sub-division level function was organised at the Anaj Mandi Kharar. SDM Vinod Kumar Bansal unfurled the national flag. A colorful cultural programme was presented by schoolchildren.

The Independence Day celebrations were also held at Chandigarh University campus, Doaba Group of Colleges, Rayat-Bahra University and Chandigarh Group of Colleges, Jhanjeri. The pre-primary section of Anee’s school also celebrated the Independence Day.

Heartians present colourful programme

Sacred Heart Sr Sec School celebrated the 72nd Independence Day. Ex-Heartian Garima Sharma, Deputy Commissioner, Income Tax, Chandigarh, was the chief guest on the occasion.

The programme started with unfurling of the national flag by Garima Sharma. The students presented a colourful event with shades of passion, allegiance through songs and speeches. The audience was enthralled by the mesmerising dance performance reflecting rich culture of Dadra and Nagar Haveli.

Play on freedom struggle by Mangal Mangal school

Manav Mangal Smart World, Zirakpur, celebrated the Independence Day with great zeal.

Dr Rajesh Vaid, member the Haryana Public Service Commission, was the chief guest on the occasion.

The event took off with a marvelous performance on the prayer song ‘Jay Jay Kara’ in which students mesmerised the audience with the invocation to Lord Shiva. Thereafter, the cultural programme began with the lighting of the lamp.

The highlight of the programme was the enactment of the Indian freedom struggle by the students of Classes VII and IX. The programme concluded the national anthem.
