CHANDIGARH:Around 860 police personnel will be deployed in the city on Holi to deter hooligans from creating a ruckus.

Around 860 police personnel will be deployed in the city on Holi to deter hooligans from creating a ruckus.

Police officials said keeping in view the past experience wherein youngsters indulged in hooliganism, eve-teasing, rash driving and drunken driving, they had made adequate security arrangements in the city.

Six DSPs, 26 inspectors, including 16 SHOs, and 828 police personnel would be deployed in different parts of the city.

The police said 64 internal nakas would be set up in the city. Besides, police personnel would be deployed in markets, malls, near girls’ colleges, hostels and colonies. 

The police would keep a check on traffic violations and vehicles will be impounded for offences. 

The police said creating noise pollution shall attract action under the Punjab Police Act, leading to imprisonment, fine and seizure of the sound system. 


Limited-vehicle zone

Internal roads opposite the markets from Sector 11 to Sector 10 have been earmarked as limited-vehicle zone. 

Women cops

Women cops will be deployed around girls’ college and hostels in the city.
