Aam Aadmi Party surges ahead in Fatehgarh Sahib, close fight for second spot

The Aam Aadmi Party candidates have recorded victory on maximum number of block samiti seats in the district. There was a close fight between the Congress and SAD, whereas the BJP had won two seats. The results of two seats out of total 10 were declared and AAP had won both the seats.
The counting for all 10 seats of the zila Parishad and 75 seats of the panchayat/block samiti in the district was under way till the filing of this report. There were 39 candidates in the fray for 10 zila parishad seats, while 261 candidates were contesting for 75 seats of the panchayat samiti.
Congress workers, led by former MLA Kuljit Singh Nagra, protested outside a counting centre at Mata Gujri School stating that party candidate Rajinder Kaur from the Balpur zone of the Sirhind block samiti was announced winner, but later the AAP candidate was declared winner. However, the result was yet to be declared officially. Nagra said in the Jallah zone, the Congress candidate had won the seat, but AAP nominee was declared winner. He added that the Congress lost a few seats by less than 10 votes, but they did not object as the outcome was fair and accepted the defeat. Of the 15 seats for the Sirhind block samiti, results for nine seats have been declared. AAP candidates have won seven seats and Congress two.
There are 15 seats in the Bassi Pathana block samiti and results of eight have been declared. AAP candidates have won six seats, SAD and Independent have won one seat each. There are 15 seats in the Khamano block samiti and the results of 10 have been declared. The AAP, Congress and SAD candidates have won three seats each, while the BJP nominee was elected on one seat.
Of the 15 seats in the Khera block samiti, 13 results have been declared. The AAP candidates have won eight seats, Congress three, SAD and independent have won one seat each.
There are 17 seats in the Amloh block samiti and the results of 11 seats have been declared. The AAP candidates won on eight seats, SAD on three seats.
Fatehgarh Sahib MLA Lakhbir Singh Rai said it is the victory of party workers and the development initiated by the AAP government under the leadership of CM Bhagwant Mann. Deputy Commissioner Sona Thind and SSP Subham Aggarwal thanked the voters and staff for the free and fair poll.
