MOHALI:Aditya Chauhan rallied from a set down to upset top seed Pranay Chaudhary in the boys’ U-16 quarterfinals in the Roots-AITA National Ranking Championship in Zirakpur on Wednesday.

Mohali, June 19 

Aditya Chauhan rallied from a set down to upset top seed Pranay Chaudhary in the boys’ U-16 quarterfinals in the Roots-AITA National Ranking Championship in Zirakpur on Wednesday. 

Chauhan lost the opening set 3-6, but came back strongly to win the next two sets 7-5 6-3 to seal a spot in the semifinals. 

Harmanjit Singh stunned second seed Shraeyvir 4-6 6-2 6-4, while Lakshya Gupta downed Rishi Dahiya 6-4 6-4 in the quarterfinals. Third seed Aryan Thakur drubbed Sanat Goyal 6-0 6-1. 

In the boys’ U-18 quarterfinals, second seed Rohan Phule overcame Aryan Thakur 6-7(5) 6-4 6-4, while Sarthak Gandhi registered a 6-1 6-4 win over Akash Srinivasan. 

Catherine in quarters 

Top seed Catherine Bangu survived a scare before she beat Agrima Gandhi 4-6 7-5 10-6 to move into the girls’ U-16 quarterfinals. 

Vanya Arora edged out Anandita Sharma 6-2 7-5, while Omisha beat Bhumi Kakkar 6-3 7-6(4). Priyal Chaudhary dismissed Sargun Singh 6-1 7-5 in the pre-quarterfinals.  

In the girls’ U-18 pre-quarters, Jaskirat overcame Bhumi 5-7 6-0 10-7. — TNS
