After Haryana bank fraud, Chandigarh Admn issues advisory
The alleged fraud of Rs 590 crore involved unauthorised transactions, suspected forgery in accounts maintained by Haryana Government departments
After the alleged siphoning of Rs 590-crore funds of the Haryana Government, the UT Finance Department has directed all departments to reconcile their accounts with private banks.
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of the Haryana Government had alleged that some accounts associated with the Chandigarh Administration might have been fraudulently accessed at two private lenders — IDFC First Bank and AU Small Finance Bank.
The alleged fraud of Rs 590 crore involved unauthorised transactions and suspected forgery in bank accounts maintained by various Haryana Government departments. The Haryana government has handed over the investigation to the ACB, which has so far arrested four suspects.
UT Finance Secretary Diprava Lakra said a meeting was convened today with officials of both banks to assess the situation. “They have assured us that the UT Administration’s funds are safe. They also stated that, if required, the amount would be returned along with applicable interest,” Lakra said.
As a precautionary measure, the UT Finance Department has issued an advisory to all departments, instructing them to immediately reconcile their accounts held with the two banks and report any discrepancies without delay. Lakra added that the administration is currently compiling details of the total funds deposited in these banks.
