After getting green signal from the Punjab and Haryana High Court on demolition of certain structures that have come up in the prohibited area around the Air Force Station and international airport at Mohali, the Mohali administration is all set to issue fresh notices to offenders here.

The local administration has already identified 98 structures that have come up within the notified area around the Chandigarh Air Force Station after March 9, 2011. All these structures are located at Bhabat village.

“These structures have to be demolished within a span of four months, but after following due process of law as per the High Court order. I am going to start issuing notices as Collector under the Defence of Works Act, 1903, to the offenders from Monday,” said Mohali Deputy Commissioner Girish Dayalan.

He added that Jagatpura village had no structure, which had come up after the 2011 cut-off date,” said Dayalan.

Dayalan added that the Municipal Council had already issued notices to the owners of all those structures.

In a survey conducted by the Zirakpur MC and GMADA, as many as 324 structures have been identified, which have come under the radar. Of 324, as many as 98 structures were built post March 2011.

“The decision on rest of the structures, located in the prohibited area, would be taken by the court in coming hearings, following which we would chalk out our plan of action,” said Dayalan.

It is to be noted that Bhabat lies on the edge of the runway towards Zirakpur. The structures that included houses, godowns, shops and warehouses not only pose a security threat to the sensitive installation, but are also a flight safety hazard.
