Aided college teachers write to Chandigarh MP Manish Tewari over ‘anomaly’ in promotions

The Chandigarh Aided College Teachers’ Association (CACTA) has sought the intervention of MP Manish Tewari on the UT Administration’s decision to grant the benefit of UGC Regulations, 2018, for career advancement scheme (CAS) promotions from the year 2022, instead of 2018.

The association submitted a detailed representation to the MP, pointing out that the UGC Regulations, 2018, were notified and came into force on July 18, 2018, and Panjab University adopted the regulations the same day. It claimed that the Administration had directed colleges to process pending CAS cases under the UGC Regulations, 2018. Around 220 CAS cases were processed, including around 120 pertaining to teachers whose promotions became due between July 18, 2018 and March 31, 2022. These cases were subsequently processed by the PU and promotion orders were issued.

The association objected to the restriction of benefits, stating that it created a serious anomaly for teachers whose promotions became due before 2022. “This is not a demand for any special favour. We are asking for what is legitimately due to teachers,” said Komil Tyagi, secretary, CACTA.
