Chandigarh, February 13
A two-day national conference, AIDSCON–8– Towards AIDS-Free World, will begin at the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Complex in Sector 35 here on February 15.
The conference is being organised by the Chandigarh State AIDS Control Society in collaboration with the IMA.
Experts from various departments will share their reports and experience on prevention of HIV/AIDS. On the first day, there will be a panel discussion on blood safety and a continuing medical education event. The next day will see a discussion on newer strategies for stopping HIV transmission. Re-strategising and psycho-social issues will also be among the topics to be discussed by the participants.
Addressing a press conference, Dr Vanita Gupta, Project Director, Chandigarh State AIDS Control Society, said they had started community-based testing under which one could know his/her HIV status with a simple prick test. The test is being done at fairs, community events and health camps. Besides, health officials are working towards removing stigma associated with the disease. — TNS
