CHANDIGARH:Unseeded Akash Srinivasan upset top seed Yuvraj Chodha to seal a spot in the boys’ U-18 quarterfinals in the Roots-AITA National Ranking Championship in Zirakpur on Tuesday.

Unseeded Akash Srinivasan upset top seed Yuvraj Chodha to seal a spot in the boys’ U-18 quarterfinals in the Roots-AITA National Ranking Championship in Zirakpur on Tuesday. 

Srinivasan lost the opening set 4-6, but came back strongly to win the next two sets 6-1 6-4 to stay in contention for a place in the semifinals. 

Second seed Aryan Thakur defeated Aakarshit 6-2 7-5, while third seed Pranay Chaudhary outplayed Shashank Singh 6-2 6-4. Sarthak Gandhi registered 6-0 6-4 win over Yash Nagdev in the pre-quarterfinals.  

Shagnik Bose edged out Anant 6-0 6-3, while Aditya Chauhan drubbed Lakshya Gupta 6-1 6-0. Sarthak Arora had an easy outing against Rishi Dahiya. Arora won 6-2 6-2. Rohan Phule registered an identical win over Chandigarh’s Dhairya Chadha.

Pranay advances 

In the boys’ U-16 pre-quarterfinals, top seed Pranay Chaudhary registered a 6-2 6-0 win over Amish Bansal. Third seed Aryan Thakur blanked Kartik Sunil Kumar 6-0 6-0, while Sanat Goyal came from behind to beat Dhairya Chadha 5-7 6-0 6-3. 

Aditya Chauhan dispatched Arnav Bhishnoi 6-2 6-4, while Lakshya Gupta dismissed Darshan Dilbaar 6-1 6-0 to move into the quarterfinals. 

Aditi progresses 

Top seed Aditi Singh, meanwhile, registered 6-0 6-1 win over Simar Atwal in the girls’ U-18 pre-quarterfinals. Sriwalli ousted Japjot Kaur 6-3 6-0, while Lavanya downed Vanshita Malothra 7-6(4) 6-0. Third seed Priyal Chaudhary dumped Navya Kola 6-2 6-1.
