Panchkula, January 12

A 22-year-old youth was killed when the Polo car he was travelling in fell into a 600-ft gorge near Khadoon village in Morni here today.

The deceased has been identified as Narinder, a resident of Jalvehra in Ambala district. He was reportedly negotiating a sharp curve when the accident took place.

Morni police chowki incharge Pratap Singh said they rushed to the spot on getting information about the mishap.

He said the youth’s body was found at a distance of 250 ft in the gorge.

The body was brought up with the help of residents of the villagers. It took them over an hour and a half to bring it to the roadside.

The police official said the body was shifted to the Civil Hospital in Sector 6, Panchkula, where a post-mortem examination would be conducted tomorrow.

The police chowki incharge said that they have informed the victim’s parents about the tragedy.

It is pertinent to mention here that a man in poultry business at Barwala had also died in a similar fashion about eight years ago.

Meanwhile, residents of the village have demanded that the government should install steel barricades on the roadsides in the mountainous terrain so as to prevent occurrence of such accidents.

The villagers claimed that they had already written to the authorities concerned in this regard but nothing has been done so far.
